STEADY

***

Easy girl, steady.

One foot in front of the other.  Don’t look around or get distracted.  Keep your blinders on and move forward.

Quaint little sayings flow through my brain:

Slow and steady wins the race.

Progress not perfection.

Every great journey begins with a single step.

Despite of my brain telling me these truisms, I am terrified.  Do I really want to put myself out here for all to see?  Do I really want to win the proverbial race? Winners risk being put in the spotlight and can no longer hide who they are.

One of my goals this year – The Year of Habit – is to get better at writing.  I have a lot to say, but every word I write is painstakingly analyzed, cut, rewritten, and shuffled around multiple times before it finally makes it out in the world.  At the root of this issue – Fear.  Fear that I will say the wrong thing, be misunderstood, and open myself up to criticism that I cannot handle.  So, this year I will be experimenting with different methods to help me push past the fear.  The writing above is my first attempt at freeform writing using a weekly prompt from fiveminutefriday.com

When I saw this week’s prompt “steady”, I immediately thought of a horse.

I want to be more like the horse from my vision.

Strong, sure-footed, and able to go the distance with a gentle grace.  Will you join me?  Is there a area of your life you feel a bit unsteady?

This post is part of the weekly Five Minute Friday link-up!  Every Friday a community of writers write for 5 minutes on a single topic – no editing, overthinking, or worrying about proper grammar.

Love those sayings….especially, “Progress not perfection”! I’m just returning to the blogging world and just yesterday had someone ask me for the address to find my blog. I literally felt fear at the thought of sharing – and someone reading my blog. Hello…I think that is the intent. But those fears are real and can be very strong. I can really relate to your thoughts shared here. But I look forward to more posts – and thanks for putting yourself out there:)

    Visiting from FMF!
